How to Become a Scientific Diver at Cal Poly
Depending on your diving training and experience, there are several pathways by which one can conduct scientific diving at Cal Poly.
- For active/current scientific divers affiliated with other institutions with AAUS or similar programs that are collaborating with Cal Poly:
- Reciprocity may be granted. Contact Jason Felton, Diving Safety Officer, for more information.
- For divers that are affiliated with Cal Poly that have been or have had scientific diving training at another AAUS or similar institution:
- Review & submit information listed on the Diver Documentation page.
- A check-out dive will probably be required.
- For divers that do not have previous scientific diving and have not taken a scientific diving course:
- Attend Cal Poly's (or equivilent) Scientific Diving Course - MSCI 410.
- Review & submit information listed on the Diver Documentation page.
